Course requirements

Minimum 5 GCSE’s at grades 9 - 4 (A* - C) or equivalent, including a 5 or above in Maths, English and Science or a Level 2 qualification in a relevant subject area.

What will I do?

The qualification is intended to help you to progress into highly skilled employment in the Digital sector, with a focus on interactive and digital software design and development.

The course consists of a core component and an occupational specialism. The core component gives students a broad understanding of the digital industry and covers a range of topics including business context in a digital environment, culture, data, digital analysis, digital Environments, security, testing and tools.

The occupational specialism allows students to develop the relevant skills in preparation for your career in the digital sector. The occupational specialism is assessed by a project that is created in conjunction with employers. The course also involves significant industry experience through work placements.

The objectives of this qualification are to equip students with the knowledge and skills to deal with a range of digital

• Analysing a problem to define requirements and acceptance criteria aligned to user needs

• Designing, implementing, and testing software

• Changing, maintaining and supporting software

• Creating solutions in a social and collaborative environment

• Discovering, evaluating, and applying reliable sources of knowledge

• Applying ethical principles and managing risks in line with legal and regulatory requirements when developing software

Your occupational specialism will allow you to develop the relevant skills in preparation for your career in the digital sector.

What can I do when I finish?

Students can progress into Skilled employment in Digital sector roles such as Programmer, Web Designer, IT Business Analyst, Systems Designer, or Software Development Technician.

Students can also progress onto a L3 apprenticeship in fields such as a Software Development Technician or into higher education on degree courses such as computer science, information systems, software engineering or game design.
