Course overview

This course is designed for people who are interested in a career in photography and related disciplines. You will study a range of units including; studio photography, digital and traditional practice, location photography, portrait and fashion photography. Students will discover the magic of photography via a series of assignments specifically written to broaden their outlook. Students can also take advantage of our excellent facilities including the ‘dark room’ and enterprise suite with large format printing equipment.

Course requirements

Three or more GCSEs at D or above including Maths and English or a L1 related qualification. An interview and short assessment will assess suitability and interest

What will I do?

A varied amount of photographic projects shall be set for you to interpret in your own style. We will look at landscapes, portraiture, studio, still life, action/movement and focus on a final major project of your own preferred genre with the opportunity to exhibit to friends and family at the end of the course. You will gain lots of photographic experience working both indoors and outdoors as well as studio and dark room based, from both practical and creative aspects.

What will it give me?

The course will give you a deeper understanding of photography and how to find your own style of working while building your portfolio.

There are lots opportunities for professional photographers varying from wildlife, wedding and portraiture to highend catwalk fashion photography.

Working with an experienced freelance professional photographer for advice and support and a creative classroom environment will get the very best from you and your camera.

Materials needed

A DSLR camera and the willingness to learn.

What can I do when I finish?

You have the opportunity to progress onto study our Level 3 certificate in photography.

You could work as a professional photographer or work photographically within the arts.
