Course overview

This qualification will support you to develop the knowledge and skills required to work in clinical adult care environments. The qualification is formed of mandatory and optional units.

It covers a wide range of areas including dementia awareness, mental health and well-being, supporting individuals with their physical and emotional care, daily living needs and healthcare procedures.

The content is aligned with the knowledge and skills required for the Adult Care Worker.

Course requirements

Learners must be at least 19 years old and you must be already working in a care setting. You do not need any formal qualifications. We can support you with maths and English qualifications if you are completing this course to develop your skills and progress to the level 3.

What will I do?

We have a drop-in College on a Wednesday evening 5-8pm for theory support sessions, therefore you will need time to attend these sessions from your place of work, we understand how hard this is as a care worker on shifts and are as flexible as we can be. You will complete a portfolio of evidence towards assessment. You also will need to be observed in your setting within your job role for the demonstrate parts of the qualification. The assessor can also come to your place of work to support you with the theory.

What will it give me?

The qualification can usually be completed in 12 months, you will be training to level 2 for your employment in residential or nursing homes and domiciliary care. You can progress to Senior Care Support Worker if you chose to complete the Level 3.

Materials needed

The course is delivered flexibly, you should have access to the internet and assessments will need to be submitted on Word so access to a laptop or PC is essential. We can support with this. Your employer should also support you. Text books are not essential and research with online books we can give you access to.

What can I do when I finish?

The content of the qualification links with the knowledge and skills required for the Adult Care Worker. Upon completion, you will be trained to level 2. You could progress to:

• adult senior care worker – we have the level 3 programme of study here at BAC

• healthcare assistant/support worker

Units can also be a basis for continuing professional development in your chosen field.
