Would you like to do an Access course but you aren’t sure if you’re ready?
Would you like to prepare yourself for study, or have a taster before you commit to a full year?
This Pre-Access course is perfect for you. It’s an 8-week course that takes place on a Friday morning, where you can get to know your tutors and familiarise yourself with some of the subjects and study skills for Access to HE.
Course requirements
There is an interview for the course and some screening tests.
For Access, you will need Level 2 Maths and English - this can be Functional Skills or GCSE grade 4/C or higher. If you don’t have these, you can enrol to study alongside the Pre-Access course.
You must be 19 or over to apply for this course. You can apply for an Advanced Learner Loan to cover your course fees, and you may qualify for support with your course costs e.g. stationery and meals. You will also get free support with childcare.
What will I do?
You will study a range of units introducing you to Sociology, Psychology and Biology.
On this programme you will develop skills in:
· Higher Order Thinking skills such as analysis / synthesis / evaluation / justification
· Reading information and selecting key information / facts / ideas
· Referencing
· Research using academic sources
· Writing in a range of different formats
What will it give me?
This is an ungraded course that will get you ready for the Access to HE course in Humanities & Social Sciences or in Health Professions.
Materials needed
A laptop computer is recommended, but the College also has dedicated IT facilities for degree students and adults.
What can I do when I finish?
You can progress from this course to an Access to HE course if you have your Maths and English qualifications.
