Fabrication & Welding Apprentice, Solartron ISA, Shildon

Nathan began his career journey at South West Durham Training studying a full-time Level 3 Extended Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering. Following completion of his course, Nathan was delighted to be offered an apprenticeship in fabrication and welding with Solartron ISA, the Shildon-based supplier of wellhead flow meters for the oil and gas industry.

Nathan said “I always had a career goal to work in the engineering sector. The tutors were excellent on my course and provided me with the practical skills and knowledge to progress into an apprenticeship. During my course, the Student Progression team provided me with careers support and arranged a work placement for me with a manufacturing company – on the last day of my placement I was offered a position within the company! However, I decided that fabrication and welding was the career path I wished to follow and accepted the offer of a position with Solartron which was more suited to my skill set. I am really enjoying my apprenticeship with SWDT and Solartron and hope to progress onto an HNC Engineering programme in the future.”
