Former motor mechanic Chris Bradley is looking to safely climb the career ladder after securing his first higher education qualification.

Chris Bradley

The 38-year-old health and safety officer with The Auckland Project has just graduated with a Higher Apprenticeship in Project Management, which he completed alongside a NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety.

It is the latest in a string of vocational qualifications for Chris which have also included a diploma in business administration as well as other industry accreditations needed for his role such as Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) Managing Safely, First Aid and Display Screen Equipment (DSE) assessment.

The full-time dad is also branching out to add fire safety to his portfolio with his latest CPD course, having changed career in 2017 after working as a vehicle mechanic/technician since his early 20s.

Chris, of West Cornforth, Ferryhill, said: “I found the project management course enjoyable and very educational, but also challenging because I was studying for both qualifications at the same time, caring full time for my son and working full-time for the Auckland Project.

“It was stressful at times to be able to find time to study and juggle all of those responsibilities. However, with some patience and determination I was able to pull it off and complete both courses which has advanced my career, my knowledge and understanding.

“This will open new doors that will help me provide a better future for my three-year-old son Elijah and carry out the work I enjoy.”

Chris now hopes to progress further in higher education with a degree in health and safety or fire safety.

He added: “I am very grateful to my employer The Auckland Project for their support, particularly when it comes to personal and educational development. I am also grateful to Bishop Auckland College for their support with my studies in business administration and project management.”
