College named second in the country for apprenticeship success

Bishop Auckland College has been named second in the country and best in the North-East for its apprenticeship achievement rates out of more than 150 further education colleges.

Apprenticeship success

The latest data for 2022/23 has just been published by the Department for Education and reveals the college’s achievement rate at 76.8% was more than 22 percentage points higher than the national average of 54.6% for the 293,370 leavers across England last year.

There was more good news from the National Achievement Rate Tables (NART) with the college’s education and training results, which were rated as the best in County Durham and the third best in the whole region.

Julie Vincent, Head of Employment Services and Apprenticeship Performance, said she was delighted at the news: “These are outstanding apprenticeship achievement rates, which I would attribute to a number of factors.

“First the strong relationships we build with apprenticeship employers, then the thorough initial assessment process to match the right person with the right job role and the right employer.

“Then the dedication of our teachers and assessors who work hard to ensure that all apprentices develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours they need to excel in their job roles.

“And finally our swift response to any issues or concerns from apprentices or employers that allow us to resolve any problems quickly and efficiently.”

Every employer who returned a recent survey sent to all companies with apprentices at the college said they would recommend us to other firms.

Bishop Auckland College offers apprenticeships across a wide range of sectors and specialisms including construction, business & management, early years and hair & beauty – as well as engineering apprenticeships at our specialist engineering training centre South West Durham Training in Newton Aycliffe.

Shaun Hope, Principal and CEO of the Bishop Auckland College Group, said: “We are extremely proud of these results, which serve as evidence of the fantastic partnerships we have with so many local and regional employers and the high quality apprenticeships we offer.”
