The hosts were joined by competitors from visiting East Durham College, Stockton Riverside College, New College Durham and Middlesbrough College.

The students, who were accompanied by their tutors, produced very high quality standards.

Two independent employers and impartial judges assessed the participants' work, provided feedback and awarded three prizes in each category.

The carpentry and joinery competition was judged by Project Manager Karl Hankey from Raby Estates, and ME Decorating judged the painting and decorating entries.

Sponsors were Brewers for painting and decorating while Raby Estates and North Yorkshire Timber sponsored carpentry and joinery.

Michelle Andelin, Head of Construction and Motor Vehicle at Bishop Auckland College, who presented certificates to all competitors, said: “The standard of competition work by the students from each of the colleges was extremely high and I am certain that the experience has benefited each and everyone of them.

"I was delighted that the judges supported this important event by giving up their time and it was fantastic to have them on board. I would also like to thank our sponsors for sponsoring the awards and providing prizes.”

The winning students were presented with a glass engraved trophy, certificate and a goody bag from the sponsor. The overall awards ceremony for all intercollege awards will be held on May 7th at Bede Sixth Form, Billingham.
