Guest speaker Laura Graham, who owns and manages two nurseries in Northumberland and Cumbria, gave an insightful talk to the learners this morning.

Laura who had previously spent 18 years in business and media operations for Proctor and Gamble, launched 'The Nursery' at Whitehouse Farm in Morpeth seven years ago before opening a second, 'Abacus day nursery' in Dalston.

The two nurseries have 150 places combined and Laura employs 70 staff.

As part of national colleges week, Laura talked with the childcare students about journeys into childcare, both from an employer and employee perspective.

Focusing on the kinds of characteristics an employer is looking for, she provided lots of helpful advice and hints and tips when applying for jobs.

Seven lucky early years students are currently enjoying a three week work placement in pre-schools in Salerno, Italy, with others busy running playgroups back home.
