The Bishop Auckland College Level 2 Plumbing student scored highest in the task to build a multi frame, using low carbon steel (LCS), plastic and copper pipe.

The event was held at East Durham College in Peterlee and nine colleges took part.

Newcastle College came second and New College Durham third, while students from Sunderland College, Redcar and Cleveland College, Middlesbrough College, Tyne Coast College and hosts East Durham College also competed.

The competition was judged by Jeff Nutter from City & Guilds, also a director at Lernr.

Owen, 18, from Darlington, a former Hummersknott Academy pupil, won tools including a pipe bender and copper/plastic pipe cutter.

Julie McManus, Skills Coach at Bishop Auckland College, said: “Owen was over the moon he won the competition. Both myself and plumbing lecturer Tom Malone were very proud of Owen as his work within the plumbing department is outstanding.

“All his exams he has completed have been at a merit or distinction level and his attendance is excellent.”
