Amber Williamson

Early Years Teaching Assistant, Thornhill Primary School, Shildon

Amber Williamson

Amber commenced her training at Bishop Auckland College on a Level 2 Early Years course, before progressing to a Level 3 Diploma. Following three years of study at College and with the support of the Student Progression team, Amber has successfully gained employment as a full-time Teaching Assistant within the nursery and reception classes at Thornhill Primary School in Shildon.

Amber said “One piece of advice I would give is to let people help you. In the early days of my studies, I wouldn’t always listen to people but by accepting help and support from my tutors, I soon realised that I had a lot to learn! Whilst at College, the Student Progression team arranged my work placements in nurseries and schools which provided me with lots of practical experience with children. I was offered a job following completion of one of my placements in a nursery where I worked before applying for my current position. I absolutely love my role at the school. The staff are lovely, very encouraging and supportive. I have always wanted to work with young children in a school so this is my dream job!”

Amber has since received further training at the school and is in her 2nd year of the Foundation Degree in Education and Care at the College, to enhance her career progression in the future.

Miss Stanger, Early Years Teacher, said “Amber has a wonderful relationship with the children and staff at Thornhill. She supports the early years team fully across all aspects of the children’s learning and development."
