Kelly K Teaching Assistant Parkside Academy Willington

Kelly had a successful career in the travel industry spanning 25 years. Sadly, during the Covid-19 pandemic, Kelly was made redundant. Turning her change of situation into a positive, Kelly decided to explore new career options which led to an exciting career change working with children. Kelly enrolled at Bishop Auckland College as a Level 3 Advanced Early Years Educator Apprentice, working in a school nursery and attending College for one day per week.

Nearing completion of her apprenticeship, Kelly worked closely with the Student Progression team to produce a new CV, complete job applications and cover letters. Kelly also had interview technique sessions with the team in order to build her confidence in preparation for interviews with employers in her new career sector. With the support of the Student Progression team, Kelly had a successful interview at Parkside Academy in Willington and was offered employment as a Teaching Assistant to support SEND pupils in Year 7.

Kelly said “The Student Progression team were amazing! It was quite daunting changing career, and having not had an interview for many years, I was so grateful for the support I was offered. I had regular appointments in the Student Progression Hub which were flexible to fit around my apprenticeship. The advice and guidance that the team provided me helped me so much in my job search skills and preparing for interviews. The staff are wonderful and so welcoming!”
