Nikki commenced his career journey at Bishop Auckland College following his GCSEs, enrolling onto a Certificate in Sport Level 2 programme and then successfully progressing to the Level 3 Diploma in Sport and Physical Activity. Alongside his studies, Nikki completed a practical work placement with Gateway North East. Nikki impressed the team so much that he was offered employment following completion of his course! Nikki is employed as a Sports Leader and works across the North East, supporting young people with learning disabilities.
Nikki said “My career goal was always to be a sports coach. Both the course and my work placement has helped me to gain skills and make new friendships. I really enjoyed the modules about exercise, health and lifestyle, sports injuries, coaching, leadership and fitness training. My new role includes supporting young people on outdoor adventures, football, cricket, sailing and we have recently visited Kielder Forest. During my time at College, the Student Progression team supported me with my work placement and developing my career skills which gave me lots more confidence, ready for employment. I love my new job as it allows me to change the lives of others so they become active members of their community.”
