Sophie left school in Year 8 without any GCSEs and joined Bishop Auckland College at the age of 15. Sophie enrolled onto a Level 1 Beauty Therapy course, progressing to Level 2 and Level 3. Following three years of study at College and with the support of the Student Progression team, Sophie has successfully gained employment as a full-time Spa Therapist at Ramside Hall Hotel in their luxury spa.

Sophie said “Without my education at Bishop Auckland College, I would not have been able to achieve the qualifications which have enabled me to follow my dream career path. My tutor was very supportive and prepared me for the world of work and I have gained so much knowledge and skills from my Beauty Therapy courses. The Student Progression team helped me find this role. The team supported me with my job application and cover letter, and advised me on interview techniques. I decided to drop the application off at Ramside and received an interview straight away! I love my new role as Spa Therapist. The team here are so friendly and welcoming and I have learnt so much already!”

Sophie has also received training in Elemis skincare products with her employer and she now carries out full body massage, facials, waxing, eyebrows, hot stones, wellness and pregnancy massage. She has excellent product knowledge and has adapted so well to the routines of the spa.”
