Student case studies

Leah Hair

Leah
Hair and Beauty L1

I chose my course because I wanted to gain experience of both the hair and beauty sectors before specialising in one area. Everyone on my course is friendly and the tutors are really supportive. After my course I plan to progress onto Level 2 Hairdressing to further my goal of working self employed in the sector.

Barbering L3

My course has enabled me to turn my passion into a career. My tutors at the college are very friendly and have contacts in the industry to help support my own career progression. I’ve also had the opportunity to study for a qualification in hairdressing to improve my skillset. My next step is employment in the sector as a fully qualified barber.

What courses could I study?

We have a course at BAC regardless of your previous experience of Hairdressing or Barbering. If you have some experience, you might enter at Level 2. If not, we have other courses designed to build up your skills first.

What facilities would I have access to?

As a Hairdressing or Barbering student at the college you will have access to three commercial hairdressing salons and a commercial barbershop with photographic studio. These are industry standard facilities designed to help you get the skills you need to succeed.

We use Wella products and colours in both the Hairdressing and Barbering areas, as well as OSMO products in Barbering. We have academy status for Bluebeard's Revenge range of male grooming products.

What trips could I go on?

Barbering Bash

Students enjoy a range of trips each year. Planned trips for 2024 include visiting a range of salons in Gateshead and Middlesbrough, as well as trips to the Scottish Hair and Beauty Show, the NEC Hair Show in Birmingham and Barber Connect in Telford. You will also have the opportunity to visit hairdressing suppliers to understand how to develop your own business.

Each year students are involved in a range of fundraising activites including World Barber Day, MacMillan 'Brave the Shave' and 'Movember'.

Staff and students work closely with the Great British Barber Bash, a world-renowned training provider, hosting events at the college which includes training and showcases for students to build their skills. Students also enjoy training and talks from a range of external business owners and employers.
