Course overview
The Diploma in Vehicle Fitting Principles is a Level 2 course which includes a full range of routine vehicle fitting procedures and essential knowledge for vehicle fitters working on a wide range of vehicles in all types of garages and fast fit businesses.
It is a learning programme that involves students studying both the theory and practical aspects of vehicle fitting.
Learners also gain a wide knowledge and understanding of health and safety in the workplace, agreeing customer needs and skills associated with working in a garage. These include inspecting, repairing and replacing vehicle tyres, carrying out light vehicle front wheel alignment and inspecting and replacing elements of a light vehicle, such as clutches, exhaust components, suspension dampers, vehicle batteries and braking systems.

Course requirements
Minimum 4 GCSE’s at grades 3 - 2 (D - E) or equivalent, including a D in Maths and English, or a Level 1 qualification in a relevant subject area.
What will I do?
Whilst studying the Diploma in Vehicle Fitting Principles Level 2, you will have practical time in the workshop and also classroom theory covering a range of units which include:
- Testing batteries and other engine parts to find faults
- Checking tyres and exhausts for defects
- Replacing or repairing faulty parts
- Balancing and re-aligning wheels
- Offering customers advice on simple maintenance issues.
Other non-technical but essential skills also include: how to maintain good working relationships with colleagues and customers in the automotive work environment by using effective communication and support.
What will it give me?
A City & Guilds Level 2 Diploma in Vehicle Fitting Principles (VRQ) qualification.
