Course overview

The Diploma in Light Vehicle Maintenance & Repair Principles Level 3 will suit you if you have a Level 2 Motor Vehicle qualification or a relevant level of technical skills and knowledge and are seeking to gain more responsibility by supervising others, running your own business or moving into a diagnostic technician level.

You will work with minimum supervision and have a good record of safety, fault correction and ensuring work meets the required standard.

This course involves you studying theory of motor vehicle technology and developing practical maintenance and repair skills.

Course requirements

Minimum 4 GCSE’s at grades 9 - 4 (A* - C) or equivalent, including a C or above in Maths and English, or a Level 2 qualification in a relevant subject area.

What will I do?

The Diploma in Light Vehicle Maintenance & Repair Principles Level 3 will cover topics including health and safety and good housekeeping in the automotive environment, support skills for job roles in the automotive work environment, skills in materials, fabrication, tools and measuring devices in the automotive environment, inspecting light vehicles using prescribed methods, diagnosing and rectifying light vehicle engine faults, diagnosing and rectifying light vehicle chassis system faults, diagnosing and rectifying of auxiliary electrical faults, diagnosing and rectifying light vehicle transmission and driveline faults.

You will sit five multiple choice examinations and undertake practical assessments in related workshop activities, including completing a portfolio.

What will it give me?

The course will give you a Level 3 Diploma in Vehicle Maintenance.

Materials needed

Safety footwear and overalls are required for this course which you can purchase from the college.
