Course overview

If you enjoy working on cars and would like to develop your interest and skills further to work in the motor vehicle industry then the Certificate in Vehicle Maintenance Level 1 is the course for you.
We will develop your skills and prepare you for the next level in your chosen subject. You will work on vehicles using industry standard tools and equipment that you would see in a garage.
There will also be the opportunity for you to take part in some work related experience in a garage to further develop and enhance your skills.

Course requirements

Minimum 3 GCSE’s at grades 2 - 1 (E - F) or equivalent, or entry level qualification. Alternative qualifications and experience will be considered.

What will I do?

Whilst studying the Certificate in Vehicle Maintenance Level 1, as much time is spent in theory and practical sessions, where the underpinning knowledge is taught in the formal classroom setting, using modern electronic packages and written work, assessed by a mix of hand written assignments and on-line exams.

Theories are put into practice in our fully equipped workshop on a range of modern cars with practical assessments to match the theoretical knowledge assessments. All vehicle systems are covered including: Engines, Transmission & Driveline, Chassis systems and Electrical/Electronics. When you have proved your natural abilities in the subject work experience can be arranged at one of our local employers within the motor trade.

Maths and English is a key part of the programme and you will work towards achieving a GCSE grade C or functional Skills Level 2.

What will it give me?

An industry recognised Level 1 Diploma in Vehicle Maintenance with an understanding of how the modern car is built and how its many systems work.

Materials needed

Safety footwear and overalls are required for this course which can be purchased at the college.

What can I do when I finish?

Successful candidates can progress onto Level 2 as a full time student or into an Apprenticeship.
